Portland, Maine, is filled with dog-friendly breweries, restaurants, lighthouses and even ferries, and is a quick, easy weekend road trip for East Coasters.
When you’re a travel and adventure-loving dog mom, few things are better than taking your pup on a crazy, action-packed road trip.
For Harry and me, that was Portland, Maine, one of the most dog-friendly cities on the East Coast. With Harry as navigator and me as chauffeur (because let’s be honest about who has more pull here …) we trekked up to Portland to spend Memorial Day weekend enjoying all the dog-friendly activities in this charming New England town.
I’m talking lobster (or should I say lobstAH), lighthouses and breweries galore! We even caught a ferry out to Peaks Island, and while Harry was a bit too hot to explore the trails, we soaked up the scenery from a shaded, beer-filled patio — which is always a win in my book.
But, let’s be real. When it comes to dog travel, you don’t want to just read about it. You want to see the fluffy cuteness that is my traveling partner in crime: Harry. Well, my friends, your wish has been granted. Enjoy!
While it looked like a blast (and it was!), traveling with a dog is actually pretty challenging. Here are some tips on what to expect if you’re taking your fluffy little pup on the road!
How cute! 😊💖 It’s such a great reward to travel with a pet! I remember when I was younger and having road trips with my dog! Great post!

Thanks for posting this and Best Regards!
Now that I’ve retired from the ratrace of competition and deadlines, I’m looking forward to just relaxing and enjoying the fruits of my labors. And what better way to accomplish that feat than with our four legged friends who never complain, always eager to please and great company because of their curious nature! Love this post because I’m definitely considering a short nature trip away from the daily noise and grind with my 4-legged best friend! Hope to see many more posts of this sort in the future!
