Getting around London is surprisingly easy once you get used to the Underground.
It felt safe, efficient, and we found ourselves using it way more than anything else—only calling an Uber when we really needed to.
And of course… mind the gap.
The West End is full of life—and home to some of the most talented performers in the world. There’s just something about seeing a show here that feels extra special.
And I loved that people actually dressed up for the theatre—it made the whole experience feel a little more elevated.
Some of the traditional food in London felt a little milder than what we’re used to—but the international food scene more than makes up for it.
We had some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had there, which ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.
We did the Big Bus tour (again)… and it was great—as usual. It’s such an easy way to see the city and get your bearings without stressing about how to get everywhere.
And if you’re worried about looking like a tourist (I was)… don’t be. They know. Immediately.
The good news? In London, no one really cares—you’re just part of the mix. And if they do… they’re well-mannered enough to wait and say it behind your back!
Notting Hill was easily one of the cutest parts of London—hands down.
The colorful streets and Portobello Road Market make it feel like a completely different side of the city.
I loved wandering through the market (and honestly… I’d go back just to pick out doorknockers for a future house).
It’s also such an interesting mix of characters, which makes it even more fun to explore.
One thing that caught me off guard—public restrooms often cost money to use.
It’s usually not much, but it’s something to be aware of (and maybe keep some change or a card handy).
I cannot say this one loud enough—wear comfortable shoes.
Between all the walking, the cobblestone streets, and the occasional rain, it’s a whole different experience on your feet.
I still wanted to be cute though, so I ended up getting a pair of Veja sneakers—and honestly, it was the perfect balance.
,
Bonus: lots of locals were wearing them too!
One thing we learned the hard way—bundled tickets aren’t always as easy as they sound.
We booked the Tower of London as part of a package, thinking it would simplify things… but it actually made it more complicated.
At one point, we were tracking down a missing ticket operator who had apparently gone into hiding from the rain.
Lesson learned—if it’s something you really want to do, book it directly and keep it simple.
London can feel expensive—and the currency conversion definitely plays a part in that.
It’s easy to see a price in pounds and think “that’s not too bad”… and then realize it’s more in dollars than you expected.
After a while, you get used to it—but it’s something to keep in mind, especially at the beginning
of your trip.
London hotel rooms can be tiny compared to what we’re used to. We definitely got burned on this one and ended up in a room that felt like a small cruise cabin.
Thank god we like to snuggle… but definitely check the square footage before you book.
